Safety & Supervision
At Alive Outside, your child’s safety is our top priority. All camp activities have been carefully reviewed and approved by our Health & Safety advisors, with procedures in place to ensure every child has a safe and enjoyable day.
- Children receive a short Health & Safety briefing before each activity.
- Hygiene protocols are followed throughout the day, especially before eating or after activity sessions.
- This is a nut-free camp - please do not pack nuts in your child’s snacks.
- To reduce the risk of illness or infection, we recommend your child showers and changes clothes when they return home and that all clothing is washed thoroughly before being worn again.
Awareness around Infectious Diseases
Killruddery Estate is a working farm, home to a wide range of animals and natural environments. While the risks are very low, we encourage parents to be aware of the symptoms of rare outdoor infections. If your child shows any unusual symptoms after camp, please consult your GP promptly.
You can find more info via these HSE factsheets:
In Case of Illness
In the unlikely event that your child becomes unwell during camp:
- Our instructors will care for them and keep them safe in a separate area.
- We will contact you immediately and ask that you collect your child straight away.
Camp Groups & Instructors
- One Day Camp participants (ages 7-13) will be placed into small groups.
- Each group is led by one of our experienced Camp Instructors, who stays with them for the full day to provide support, consistency and confidence.
- Our instructors are trained to help children settle in quickly, including those arriving without friends, so that everyone feels part of the group.
What to Expect - Activities & Facilities
Over the course of the day, your child will take part in a number of fun outdoor activities designed to challenge, educate and inspire. Guided by their instructor and supported by the rest of their campmates, they’ll enjoy exciting adventures that build teamwork, resilience and confidence.
Please note:
- Activities may be adjusted in exceptional circumstances, but a full and fun day is always guaranteed.
- Children will walk 3–5 km throughout the day.
- Pack light but practical: snacks, water, towel, change of clothes and weather-appropriate gear.
- A two-strap backpack is strongly recommended, as children must keep their bag with them at all times.
Food, Drink & Energy
- This is a high-energy outdoor camp - please ensure your child has eaten a good meal before arrival.
- Pack two solid snacks and plenty of water to keep them fuelled.
- As bags remain outdoors all day, place towels, spare clothes and shoes in plastic bags inside the backpack to keep them dry.
- Don’t forget a rain jacket, sun cream (just in case!) and clothing suitable for the weather.
