Safety & Supervision

At Alive Outside, your child’s safety is our top priority. All camp activities have been carefully reviewed and approved by our Health & Safety advisors, with procedures in place to ensure every child has a safe and enjoyable day.

  • Children receive a short Health & Safety briefing before each activity.
  • Hygiene protocols are followed throughout the day, especially before eating or after activity sessions.
  • This is a nut-free camp - please do not pack nuts in your child’s snacks.
  • To reduce the risk of illness or infection, we recommend your child showers and changes clothes when they return home and that all clothing is washed thoroughly before being worn again.

Awareness around Infectious Diseases

Killruddery Estate is a working farm, home to a wide range of animals and natural environments. While the risks are very low, we encourage parents to be aware of the symptoms of rare outdoor infections. If your child shows any unusual symptoms after camp, please consult your GP promptly.

You can find more info via these HSE factsheets:

  1. Mud Runs
  2. Leptospirosis (Weils) Disease
  3. E.Coli

In Case of Illness

In the unlikely event that your child becomes unwell during camp:

  • Our instructors will care for them and keep them safe in a separate area.
  • We will contact you immediately and ask that you collect your child straight away.

Camp Groups & Instructors

  • Our Halloween One Day Camp is open to children aged 7-13, with all participants taking part in activities together or in groups depending on the number of children attending that day.
  • As this is a mixed-age camp, your child may take part alongside children who are slightly younger or slightly older than them.
  • Our experienced Camp Instructors are used to working with mixed-age groups and adapt activities to suit different ages, abilities and confidence levels.
  • Throughout the day, our Instructors focus on making sure every child feels welcome, included and encouraged to get involved, regardless of their age or experience.
  • We also pay particular attention to children arriving without friends, helping them settle in, get to know the other children and feel part of the group.

What to Expect - Activities & Facilities

During the Halloween One Day Camp, every child will take part in three different activity sessions:

  • Hell & Back Junior Obstacle Challenge - climbing, crawling and taking on a selection of outdoor obstacles
  • Outdoor Survival Adventure - hands-on bushcraft activities including shelter building and fire lighting
  • Halloween Creativity Hub - pumpkin carving, scarecrow making and Halloween-themed creativity

Please note:

  • Activities take place outdoors as much as possible, so please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.
  • Activities may occasionally need to be adapted due to weather, ground conditions or other operational reasons.
  • Children can expect to cover approximately 3-5KM throughout the camp, moving between activities around the Adventure Centre.
  • Please pack light but practical - a snack, plenty of drinking water, a towel, change of clothes and suitable clothing for the weather.
  • A two-strap backpack is strongly recommended, as children will need to carry their belongings with them as they move between activities.

Food, Drink & Energy

  • This is a high-energy outdoor camp - please ensure your child has eaten a good meal before arrival.
  • Pack two solid snacks and plenty of water to keep them fuelled.
  • As bags remain outdoors all day, place towels, spare clothes and shoes in plastic bags inside the backpack to keep them dry.
  • Don’t forget a rain jacket, sun cream (just in case!) and clothing suitable for the weather.
